![]() For those taking the time to read thru the posts, the problem was it would never start the first time every day, without a spritz of starting fluid.Īpparently it was getting electric thru the spark plug wires (shown by the tester) but loosing too much power thru the caps resulting in a weak spark. Here we are on Wednesday morning, and again, it started right up. If the coolant temp gauge is not reading correctly, I’d go straight there. If pressure is OK, I’d start with a bad air intake temp sensor, or bad coolant temp sensor. Tried again a few hours later, it started right up. If you shoot in a bit of starter fluid the the pump pressure builds to the correct or low end of the spec, it may be a bad regulator or bad pump. Right off the bat, it sounds like a timing issue.(I had tried new plugs a few days earlier and it didn't help the situation.) Using starting fluid to get the engine running faster avoids wear to starters and fatigue to ones arm with pull start engines, especially on rarely used machines. ![]() Put the new spark plugs in just because the old ones had been used for a season. Starting fluid is sprayed into the engine intake near the air filter, or into the carburetor bore or a spark plug hole of an engine to get added fuel to the combustion cylinder quickly. If you need starter fluid on a gasser with fuel injection, then something is really wrong with the car and should be fixit ASAP. But, I refreshed the plug ends of the spark plug wires and made sure to forcefully push the wires into the caps as they were screwed on. One more squirt, and then I was able to fire it right up. I sprayed two quick squirts of starter fluid into the carb (air filter removed), still no go. ![]() I put fresh gas in, check the oil, fresh battery, and it wouldnt start. The old ignition coil tested ok again, and again just for s&g I put it back on the ski. 1 Was starting a Montero (2.6, gas engine) the other day. If you are using the frame as a ground, you may have significant volt drop. On a whim I tested the resistance on the solenoid. Suggest a volt drop test on the + and - sides of the battery. Tuesday morning, took the old solenoid and coil off. ![]() I received the new starter solenoid, ignition coil, and spark plugs. priming problem i had another fuel line i tried in case it was sucking air and it wasnt, i tried swapping injectors, fuel pump sounds very strong. ![]()
